I got a new bike for New Years to celebrate life and all its great wonders. Living in New Jersey with Joe is great, but I need my own sense of adventure when he flies off to London. So while he's away, I ride my bike to the back of our complex where people throw things out and see what new treasures I can resurrect--don't judge. A few days ago I looked through a pile and saw the perfect TV stand that we needed to prop our current TV on so I ran to the gym to go tell Joe,plus, it was a two-man job.
I burst into our building's gym where I ran up to Joe as he was sweating on the treadmill working off those little love handles he acquired while being "miserably" stuck in London. This is what his conversations consisted of while he was away "hating London".
Monday: Oh Nando I hate it here without you, by the way I ate Indian food today and it was wonderful!
Tuesday: Oh the weather is horrible I want to go home and be with you, by the way I had Italian food with Sylvana from work today," "Oh Nando I miss you so much I can't wait to come home, by the way I had the most delicious Lebaneese food today!"
I interrupt his treadmill experience and express with great overtones how I've found the perfect wooden tower to rest the television set on, plus, it had 2 cd holders with a glass door--that's class baby! He looked at me with great DISGUST and in a condescending tone asked, "You found it where?"
My Mexican roots were insulted, and being from Texas I wanted to shoot him! I went off in a huff only to see my TV stand being whisked away by another couple. Later in the day Joe explained how he'd just go to a furniture store to purchase a new stand and that he really didn't appreciate garbage in the house.
I wonder if he'll ever figure out where the new shoe rack in the closet came from?
The moral of the story is:
a. Riding your new bike brings new adventures,
b. bring trash up ONLY when your partner is away in London
c. one man's trash is another man's treasure.
