London Style News: LFW AW11

It is here!

How did it get to February already? How is yet another London Fashion Week? Seems like it was only few weeks back as I was last at Somerset House, watching the fashion unravel itself. However, it was September last year when we saw the looks for this coming summer and now we are about to see what is on the go for the next winter. I find myself booked for the next week. Booked is an understatement, if I had a clone, he would be very helpful until it’s all over again. I have a fresh notebook, recharged Starbucks card and comfortable (the shame) shoes, ready to rock! The New York Fashion week happens the week prior to London and all thou NY does get many of the major designers showcasing their creations, there is something about LFW, that in my opinion does compete with NFW.

As we know the fashion week “travels” across the world, each city has their turn and everyone is happy with that, right?

What makes LFW stand out for me is the fact that we do get a lot of new designer with different opinions to share views on dressing for the upcoming season. I have lost count how many times I have travelled across town to the seedy parts of East London to see fabulous new talent show casing their creations on corpses hanging of the ceilings. I think that in London, fashion isn’t taken that seriously. We have fun with, we experiment and suffer major failures, but we keep going, keep pushing through until we get that seal of approval. For example, yesterday I saw beautiful dark tones and skilfully crafted looks at Jasper Conran and then gasmask’s and what can only be described as deathly nails as Charlie Le Mindu. This is what I love about LFW, you are watching a show with elegance, class and sophistication and half an hour later there are models running on the runway covered in blood. Seriously. It doesn’t get more versatile than London! Jasper Conran show was beautiful, even if I did see the chaos behind the scenes as I was backstage and handled the doors. I am thinking about writing a report on the “Backside of fashion shows”, so keep your eyes open!

I am obviously biased as I live and breathe London every week, but I stand by my opinion. London Fashion Week rules and to further “nail” LFW importance, Anna Wintour is rumored to be at The Topshop show. I rest my case. If any of you disagree in any way, please do get in touch. We can discuss and you can invite me to the next NFW to see how it battles London to the title of “Queen of all Fashion Weeks”. Enjoy the feathers, drama and dusters. For all the action from london, you can click here and see catwalk videos throughout the week.
