Men’s Guide to Surviving Gym During the Summer

It’s summer, and there’s only one thing that we love doing during summer – swimming and drinking endless bottles of beer or cocktails next to the pool or beach. Unfortunately, if you’re a sporty person, this means that you have to squeeze in exercising, as you know you won’t be feeling very good if you skip a training. On the other hand, it’s hard to incorporate training when you have so many other things to do. Since it’s obviously extremely hard to focus on the gym and exercising in such good weather, take a look at these tips that will help you survive those two hours a day, as it’s extremely important to stay consistent and continue pumping those muscles.

Make it more interesting

As you happen to know, exercising is not a process that can only be done at the gym. This means that you can opt for many outdoor trainings, such as jogging at an outdoor gym. On the plus side, you don’t have to run home from your nice summer brunch or dinner to get ready for the gym. Not only does this mean that you can find an exercise spot near you, it will also make your workout routine more interesting.

Clothes are important

Even though you probably have a whole wardrobe of clothes that you take with you to the gym, it’s very important to pay special attention to the clothes that you take with you if it’s hot outside, as there are different materials and textures for exercising clothes. The best option would be to choose your high-quality mens gym shorts and t-shirts that are made out of breathable materials so that you feel better while working out. It just doesn’t work to take clothes that are good for the autumn/winter workout season, nor is it good to take an old pair of shorts and a torn T-shirt and sneakers. The comfort of your body is of crucial importance while working out, so you have to give it something that it can work in. Good clothing will provide firm support and will improve your blood circulation. During hot summer months, it will also control your moisture and sweat.

Drink plenty of water

Sweating is an activity that’s slowly dehydrating your body, which basically means that you have to replace all those fluids that you’re losing. In summertime, the amount of sweat that you’re losing is even bigger, so don’t ever forget to drink plenty of water when you’re exercising, jogging or biking in the summer. You need to make sure to drink at least half a litre or three-quarters of a litre before working out. Moreover, you also need to take a couple of sips of water every 15-20 minutes of your workout. Staying hydrated is an enormous part of your exercising routine, so make sure not to skip it.

Make a plan

In order to make your workout easier during summertime, it’s very advisable to make a weekly plan so that you can save time if needed. Allocating a couple of days for your gym sessions, and other days for biking or jogging might do the trick. Also, make sure to plan your gym trainings at home so that you can save time at the gym itself. If you have an option to mix different groups of muscles, you should definitely give it a go. For example, if you want to do step-ups and bench press, you might want to do a series of step-ups and rest for a couple of seconds, then turn to bench press and rest again. This will save you time as a group of muscles will get to relax while you’re working on the other side of your body.

Mind when you’re exercising

Since temperatures can get extremely high, it would be great to choose a specific time for your workouts. For example, if you’re hitting the gym, you can do it anytime of the day (provided their aircon system is always on and they provide you with a comfortable space for you to work out). However, if you opt for running or biking, it would be best to do it in the early morning right after breakfast or in the late afternoon or just before dinner. It’s not good to pump muscles and blood in the scorching sun, so avoid any outdoor activities in the noon.

Pay attention to the diet

Your eating regime is important 365 days a year, especially if you’re working out. However, if you want to stay focused and active during summer, you should consider slightly changing your diet so that you can get the best out of this workout season and fuel your body right. The first thing that you need to eat are bananas, because they provide a steady supply of calories and energy. You should also consider eating raisins, as they are high in potassium, as well as adding pomegranate juice. If you really enjoy exercising, then these small tips and changes won’t be difficult for you to follow and incorporate. If you’re a newbie, then definitely give them a go and you will see how you won’t even notice that you’ve been exercising. Going to the gym in summer can be a daunting process, but that doesn’t mean that there are not tips and tricks to make it more comfortable. Good luck!
